They are both mesmerized by the fireworks so they're missing everything else that's going on around them.
The porch is decorated with several Canadian flags; a red maple leaf on white banded by red on each side. Dani is wearing a red and white wide-brimmed hat for the occasion as well as a fancy red bow with a bouquet of white flowers and an inverted red maple leaf at her throat.
Sox is sporting a bright red top hat with a white band decorated with maple leaves, and a coordinating bowtie in red and white, also highlighting -- guess what? -- yes, those famous Canadian red maple leaves.
Dani and Sox both have balloons proudly displaying "Oh Canada" (which are the first two words of our national anthem). Dani's is tethered to her garnet bracelet and Sox has attached his to his wristwatch.
Of course no celebration is complete without something to nibble. So Dani and Sox each have a plate of poutine (pronounced "poo teen"). Although you may think this term sounds more like a reference to a teenager who hasn't yet finished toilet training, instead it is a uniquely Canadian dish first created in the Province of Quebec:
"Poutine is a Quebecois dish made of fresh-cut french fries topped with cheese curds and covered in brown gravy. It first appeared in 1950s rural Quebec snack bars. It was widely popularized across Canada and beyond in the 1990s and has become an iconic symbol of both Quebecois cuisine and culture."
Yum! It is indeed a guilty pleasure, and purrfect for a party, birthday or otherwise.
Dani and Sox best pay attention or they may lose their treat. There are two Canada geese taking a gander at those plates of poutine and they're poised to gobble it up! Of course if the geese eat their poutine, the cats can always eat the geese. I think they call this a "two-fur".
All kidding aside Canadian geese are national symbols and are a protected species.
We want them to proliferate.
So to all Canadians and our friends around the world, have a Happy Canada Day!
(while practising your social distancing, of course)
And if you're going to be out and about where you may encounter more people be sure to wear your masks, just like Dani and Sox.
Keep well everybody!
